In Shattered Silence, SANLA navigates the delicate equilibrium between industrial rigidity and organic decay. This piece serves as a visual meditation on the "static" of modern life, the moments where the quietude of a monochromatic world is fractured by rhythmic, vertical pulses.
The composition is built upon a series of deliberate, architectural blocks that evoke the silhouette of a metropolis or the flickering cadence of digital data. By stripping away colour, the artist forces the viewer to confront the raw relationship between light, shadow, and the physical weight of the paint itself.
Working exclusively in professional-grade acrylics, the artist utilises a sophisticated layering technique. Each vertical stroke is an intentional movement, creating a "shattered" effect where the underlying charcoal tones bleed into the lighter ashen highlights. The "dry brush" textures across the canvas provide a tactile grit, suggesting a surface weathered by time and environment.
"Silence is rarely empty; it is a complex structure of unspoken frequencies. This work captures the moment that structure begins to break."
